How to make a payment on Bharatkosh, step by step

  • Go to bharatkosh.gov.in and select Payment to GoI or Quick Payment, depending on whether you have an account.
  • Choose the Depositor type: Individual, Corporate, Government Employee, or PAO/DDO.
  • Search and select the correct purpose. This auto-fills the PAO and DDO fields.
  • Enter Depositor Category, amount and payment period, then move to Depositor Details.
  • Pick a payment mode: Net Banking, Debit or Credit Card, or UPI through the SBI ePay aggregator online, or NEFT, RTGS or SWIFT offline, which requires prior NEFT registration.
  • Complete the payment and download the GAR-6 receipt from the success page immediately.

How to track your Bharatkosh payment status

  • On the Bharatkosh homepage, click Track Your Payment.
  • Registered users log in directly. Others click Verify Mobile Number, enter the mobile number used at payment plus the security code, and request an OTP.
  • Enter the 6-digit OTP to reach the Track Your Payment table, listing every transaction against that mobile number.
  • Click the Transaction Reference Number to open full details in a pop-up window.
  • From that pop-up, download the GAR-6 receipt, GAR-7 challan and Letter of Thanks for that specific transaction.

What to do when a payment fails but money is left in your account

Do not re-initiate the payment for the same purpose. According to the portal's own user guide, the amount is still credited to the government account even after a failure page is shown, and the status usually settles the next day. Check status through Track Your Payment before assuming the money is lost, and contact Bharatkosh support only if the transaction genuinely does not appear after 24 to 48 hours.
